Agility Robotics occupies an unusual position in the humanoid robot market. While most platforms are still in development or limited pilot stages, Digit has been deployed inside Amazon fulfilment centres as a production system. That makes it one of a very small number of humanoid robots that can claim real-world, large-scale commercial validation. For UK logistics operators evaluating humanoid robotics, it is a reference case worth understanding in detail.
Digit is a bipedal robot built specifically for logistics environments. Unlike general-purpose research platforms, it is engineered for a defined set of tasks: picking up and moving totes and packages, navigating warehouse aisles, and operating alongside human workers in structured fulfilment environments. It uses legs rather than wheels specifically to handle the steps, ramps and varied floor surfaces found in real warehouse settings.
The Amazon deployment, which began in 2023 and scaled through 2024 and 2025, focuses on moving empty totes from conveyor returns to storage areas. This is a repetitive, physically demanding task that is well suited to current robotic capability. Digit does not need to understand complex instructions or navigate unpredictable environments; it performs a constrained set of movements reliably and at sustained pace.
Most humanoid platforms being evaluated for enterprise deployment are still in the stage of demonstrating capability in controlled conditions. Digit has moved past that stage. It is running as a production system at a company with extremely high operational standards and no tolerance for unreliable automation. That validation is significant for enterprise buyers who need to understand real-world performance rather than prototype demonstrations.
The trade-off is scope. Digit is a logistics specialist, not a general-purpose platform. It does not have the manipulation capability or task range of platforms like Figure 02 or Boston Dynamics Atlas. Agility Robotics is a US company, acquired by Hyundai in 2023. Its commercial focus in 2025 and 2026 has been on scaling the Amazon relationship and building the Agility Robotics Manufacturing (ARM) facility in Salem, Oregon, which is designed to produce Digit units at industrial scale.
For UK buyers, there is no established domestic sales channel or UK reseller. Enterprise procurement would involve direct engagement with Agility Robotics in the US, negotiation of commercial and support terms, and a UK import process. This is a realistic path for a large UK logistics operator but not a straightforward one for smaller buyers.
