Buying a humanoid robot in the UK in 2026 is possible, but it is not like buying most technology. There is no general retail channel. You cannot order most platforms from a website and expect next-day delivery. The purchase routes are specific, vary by platform, and require more direct engagement than most buyers expect.

This guide walks through each route honestly. Where routes are verified or well-established, we say so. Where information is unconfirmed, we note that too.

The options

Purchase routes available to UK buyers

Route 1: Direct from the manufacturer

For most humanoid robot platforms, the manufacturer is the primary or only sales channel. This applies in particular to enterprise-tier systems from companies such as Figure, Agility Robotics and Boston Dynamics. These manufacturers do not operate a general-public online store; they work with business buyers through a commercial sales process.

What this looks like in practice: you contact the manufacturer's commercial team, describe your deployment use case and scale, and they will qualify your enquiry. If you are a genuine business buyer, they will engage with a proposal and, likely, a pilot or evaluation arrangement. Expect a process measured in weeks to months rather than days.

For Unitree platforms (G1, H1), the manufacturer does operate a more accessible purchasing route and accepts orders from developers and researchers, not only large enterprises. Orders are typically placed through Unitree's official website or authorised distributors. UK buyers importing directly from Unitree should budget for the import process described below.

Route 2: UK resellers

A small but growing number of UK-based companies are establishing themselves as resellers, hire providers or service partners for humanoid robot platforms. These provide a UK-based commercial relationship, which simplifies purchasing, support and compliance compared to direct import.

UK resellers and service providers with a presence in the humanoid or advanced robotics space include, as reported (not exhaustively verified): Robots of London, roboTED, Robot Hire, and Forge Robotics. The list is not exhaustive and the market is forming quickly. New entrants are appearing as the commercial case develops.

Where a UK reseller relationship exists for a specific platform, this is generally the recommended route for UK business buyers. A UK-based commercial relationship provides clearer warranty terms, local support contacts, and a UK VAT-inclusive invoice rather than the complexity of a direct import.

Route 3: Import directly

For platforms where no UK reseller exists, UK buyers can import directly. This applies most commonly to Unitree platforms. Direct import involves:

  • Placing an order with the manufacturer in the originating country (typically China for Unitree)
  • Arranging freight, either through the manufacturer's own logistics or a specialist freight forwarder
  • Clearing UK customs, which involves declaring the goods, applying the correct commodity code, and paying import duty and UK VAT at the point of import
  • Arranging final delivery and any unboxing or installation requirements

Import duty rates for robotic equipment depend on the specific commodity code applied. A UK customs broker or freight forwarder with experience in technology imports can advise on the applicable rate and the declaration process. We are preparing a more detailed guide on importing humanoid robots into the UK, covering commodity codes and typical total landed costs.

Important: do not assume that the USD price on a manufacturer's website represents your total cost. VAT alone adds 20% to the customs value. Import duty, freight and insurance are additional.

Route 4: Hire, before you buy

For buyers who are evaluating whether to commit to a purchase, UK hire providers offer a lower-risk route to hands-on experience. Hiring a humanoid robot for a specific event, trial or evaluation period allows a business to assess real-world fit without a capital commitment.

UK hire is established primarily in the events, hospitality and demonstration space. It is less common as a pre-purchase evaluation mechanism for warehouse or healthcare deployment, though some providers will discuss structured evaluation hire arrangements. Contact UK hire providers directly to discuss what is available for your intended use case.

The process

What to expect end to end

For a UK business buyer purchasing through a reseller or direct manufacturer route, a realistic purchase timeline might look as follows. This is illustrative, not a guarantee.

  • Week 1 to 2: Initial enquiry, qualification conversation with the reseller or manufacturer's commercial team, clarification of intended use case.
  • Week 2 to 4: Proposal or quotation, including UK pricing, lead time, support terms and any training or integration services.
  • Week 4 to 8: Commercial negotiation, contract signing, deposit or payment arrangement. Enterprise buyers may require internal procurement approval at this stage.
  • Week 8 to 16+ (or longer): Manufacturing, shipping, customs clearance, delivery and installation. Lead times vary significantly by platform and supplier.

For direct imports from Unitree, the process may be faster for buyers comfortable managing the import themselves, but the total timeline from order to operational unit still typically runs to several weeks.

Questions to ask

What to clarify before committing

Before placing any order or signing any contract, confirm the following with your reseller or manufacturer:

  • Is the price quoted inclusive of UK import duty, freight and VAT, or is it ex-works or FOB?
  • What warranty is provided, and is it backed by UK-based service?
  • What is the lead time from confirmed order to UK delivery?
  • What training, onboarding or integration support is included or available?
  • What spare parts are held in the UK, and what are the lead times for replacements?
  • What is the process for software updates and firmware maintenance?
  • Are there any export control, safety certification or CE/UKCA marking implications you need to be aware of?

These are not unusual questions. Any credible commercial partner will answer them clearly. If a supplier is evasive on any of these points, treat that as a signal.

An honest note

Where the market is today

The UK purchase route for humanoid robots is functional but not frictionless. The infrastructure that makes buying expensive specialist equipment straightforward, established networks of resellers, clear pricing, local service, trained support engineers, is still forming. Buyers who engage directly, ask precise questions and work with suppliers who have genuine UK experience will have a smoother process than those who expect a standard e-commerce transaction.

This will improve as the market matures. We will update this guide as UK reseller relationships develop and purchase routes become more accessible.
